American young concert violinist and chamber musician, Sean Yongjoo Lim is a twenty-one-year-old violinist and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Juilliard School, studying under Laurie Smukler. He completed his Bachelor's degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying under Jaime Laredo and Jan Mark Sloman.

Sean has received numerous awards and accolades on regional, national, and international levels, such as the AFAF International Concerto Competition, American Protege International Competition, Music Friends at the Alden Theatre, and MSMTA String Competition. He has been recognized as both a 2015 and 2016 National YoungArts Foundation Honorable Mention winner in the category of Music Instrumental/Strings/Violin, participated in the Duquesne Young Artist National Competition, was the winner of MTNA’s Ohio state division, received second place in the ENKOR International Competition for violin and piano, and was chosen as one of the youngest competitors in the International Boris Goldstein Violin competition. Sean was also featured in a solo recital at the New York International Artist Competition and through CIM was awarded the 2020 Dr. Jerome Gross Prize in Violin recognizing the greatest instrumental progress.

As a soloist, Sean has played in some of the most prestigious halls, such as Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and more. He made his solo debut with the orchestra in Kostroma, Russia at twelve years old, from there he has performed as a featured soloist with the Howard County Concert Orchestra, the U.S. Army Orchestra, and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra in Severance Hall. Sean was also featured in a From the Top broadcast and invited to have a solo recital at the Kennedy Center.

Outside of solo performances and competitions, Sean is an avid chamber and orchestral musician and performed the Mendelssohn Octet on NPR’s From the Top broadcast, was in CIM’s Intensive String Quartet Seminar, and has extensive chamber experience from working and playing for distinguished musicians such as former Juilliard String Quartet member Earl Carlyss, Joel Krosnick, former Tokyo String Quartet second violinist Kikuei Ikeda, former Cleveland String Quartet member Peter Salaff, the Emerson String Quartet, the Dover Quartet, the Cavani String Quartet, Gil Shaham and many more. He is also regularly featured in masterclasses with renown violinists such as Ivanov Vladimir of the Moscow Conservatory, Juilliard Professor Shirley Givens, National Philharmonic Concertmaster Emeritus Jody Gatwood, Soovin Kim of New England Conservatory, Ilya Kaler, and many more.
